Frosty Friday

Well, not really. It's a balmy 50 degrees here in Baltimore. But in the absence of any real creative thought today (and some days are like that when you have kids), I thought I would share my 3 year old's favorite poem (other than anything by dr. seuss). I picked this book up a few months ago "You Come Too - Favorite Poems for Readers of All Ages" by Robert Frost, and it's got a nice collection of the classics ("Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening"), and few lesser known, but short and sweet poems. As someone who writes poetry (but hasn't in a few years), I think poetry is extremely important for children as it teaches them the real power of words, and how to look at everyday things in life a little differently.

Fireflies In The Garden

Here come real stars to fill the upper skies,
And here on earth come emulating flies,
That, though they never equal stars in size,
(And they were never really stars at heart),
Achieve at times a very starlike start.
Only, of course, they can't sustain the part.

So, happy Frosty Friday to you.
